What a great and positive starting point for the lifelong journey of conscious eating. Easy to read, the author makes a connection with us as her readers, kindly inviting us to think about what we often taken for granted: our food choices. She helps connect us to the food we eat - which is involved in the most common and frequent decisions we must make each day. Unlike other books and philosophies, the focus is not solely on how dietary habits can change the individual physical health status of the reader. Rather, emphasis is placed holistically, examining the effects of our food choices on the environment, animals, and our spirit. Our food choices cannot be separated from the world in which they grow, or from the emotions which we place upon them, and this book is enlightening in uncovering how this consciousness can not only change the way we eat, but help create a healthier world.Product details

The Sacred Art of Eating healing our relationship with food Lisa Tremont Ota 9781517195359 Books Reviews
I was fortunate enough to sit next to the author at a Juice Plus national conference. Since Juice Plus is all about nutrition and prevention of disease when she told me about her book I bought one on the spot. When I began reading my first thoughts were this wasn't for me; however, I persevered and am glad I did. The author presented food and our relationship in such an inspiring fashion I will always look at food differently, appreciating the variety from the plant and animal kingdom, especially the plant kingdom as they are our key to healthy living. By all means if you you are slightly interested in eating healthy this book is a must for your library or coffee table.
I was already very familiar with the content in the book and myself follow a mostly vegan/vegetarian diet, but regardless, never get tired of reading about what is important to me, the environment, public health, and the health of future generations. Also, each book adds something new! Lisa's book is very well written and organized, it flows, and was easy to follow. Her non-judgmental attitude is appreciated, and the reader understands she is sharing information and giving tools for people to make educated choices, whatever they may be. The book covers a large range of extremely important topics and detailed content. I found the questions in the end to be a great touch and a perfect way to engage the reader and help implement positive change into their lifestyle. I recommend this book to everyone, even those familiar with the content, because each author adds something new and their own special touches, and it's always a good refresher. For those not familiar, it is a must, and usually, at a minimum, results in gradual steps towards healthier daily habits and caring for our environment and the health of our children.

The book is a great overview of current health recommendations. It inspired me to eat better and to think of how my food choices affect my family and the earth. I liked the spiritual aspect of eating as it reminded me to slow down and really enjoy what I choose to eat. Overall, it is easy to read, with inspiring stories and offers motivation to choose a healthy diet.
Some people are capable of making dramatic changes to their diet and accepting them. I grew up in a time where meat was the entree, the focal point of most every meal. With time, I came to understand how meats are produced and their environmental impact. I realized that I would probably be better off if I could eat less. My process of changing the way I ate came gradually. I began to seek out foods that did not have meat in them to see if they could be fulfilling Over time, I began to find more and more foods that I enjoyed and felt satisfied eating. The Sacred Art of Eating introduced me to idea of being “imperfectly vegan”, which resonated deeply with me. It helped me to understand that I am moving in the direction of being vegan and that it’s a process. This book helped to support and enrich my evolving approach to eating.
I really loved this book! I liked it for the reason that it's NOT a diet book. Most diet books involve deprivation. The author skillfully explores our relationship with food, the influences of culture, media, and the food industry on what and how we eat while bravely sharing her own story. For me, the book is a reminder (for some it will be a wake-up call) that there is a lot of garbage out there that is being sold as "food" that really isn't even close. Much of what is sold as food is down right toxic to our bodies and ultimately our mind and spirit. By the way, those things ARE connected. When we understand that, our shopping and eating behavior will change naturally. The book has made a big difference in how I shop and eat. If you are eating just to fill you stomach, the food industry is more than happy to accommodate you and make you an even bigger consumer, literally. We should be eating for our overall well-being and this book is a wonderful guide to that end.
